Middlesex Hospital is a modern, non-profit, acute care community hospital serving a population of over 230,000 people in 23 towns in and around central Connecticut. Student radiographers rotate through all Radiology facilities located at the hospital and 4 outpatient imaging centers. The radiology service performs 130,000 imaging procedures annually. Modern state-of-the-art imaging equipment is present at all Middlesex Hospital radiology locations.
Middlesex Hospital was the 35th hospital to be earn coveted Magnet status from the American Nurses Credentialing Center, an arm of the American Nurses Asscociation. Magnet designated hospitals have demonstrated the highest quality of patient care resulting in better outcomes for patients. Magnet status also means that Middlesex Hospital is a magnet for the best and brightest professionals in healthcare.
The Radiology Department at Middlesex Hospital has state-of-the-art imaging and treatment equipment. Most classes and clinical experience occur in the Radiology Department at Middlesex Hospital and at its 4 outpatient sites. Students have the opportunity to learn theory in the classroom and quickly move to practical application of skills.
Students are assigned to work with experienced radiographers to learn how to operate the equipment and assess patient conditions. They learn to function not only in the x-ray department, but also in the operating room, intensive care units, and the emergency department. Students experience various health care environments besides an acute care hospital and do clinical rotations through outpatient facilities located in Middletown, Marlborough and Essex, Connecticut. Students also do a clinical rotation at Guilford Radiology, giving them a chance to experience the work setting of a private office. Throughout training students are exposed to all imaging modalities including Mammography, Computerized Tomography (CT scan), Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Ultrasound, Nuclear Medicine and Radiation Oncology.
