Education Programs & Classes

People say you can never be completely prepared for becoming a parent. Whether it’s your first or your fourth, there's always something new to learn or “brush up on.” That's why we offer pre– and post–delivery programs and classes.

Newborn Care Class

Learn how to care for your newborn, how to cope with the demands of a new baby and what you need to know prior to discharge from the Hospital in this two-part class. To register, call (860) 358–6699. Fee $50.

Childbirth Preparation Class

Learn what to expect during the birth experience. The mechanics of labor and birth as well as tools for coping with the demands of labor are taught in this five–week series. A three-week refresher is also available. Classes are taught by experienced childbirth instructors and are held on an ongoing basis in Middletown and Essex. To register, call (860) 358–6699. Fee: $120 for five-week series, $70 for three–week refresher. Saturday classes are also available.

Breastfeeding Class

Discover the benefits of breastfeeding for Mom and Baby. How to get started at breastfeeding and common concerns of breastfeeding mothers are just a few of the topics discussed by a lactation consultant. Classes are held once a month at the Pregnancy & Birth Center. To register, call (860) 358–6699. Fee: $30.

Infant Massage Class

Infant Massage is a gift of connection and compassion practiced worldwide. It offers families the opportunity to use touch to enhance the physical and emotional well being of their baby. Nurturing touch communicates love, respect, safety and acceptance. Our 2-class series provides hands-on training and a supportive environment for family and baby, ages birth to 12 months.

Pregnancy & Birth Center Tour

Families are welcome to visit the Pregnancy & Birth Center during this guided tour. Tours are given on the second Tuesday and third Wednesday of every month at 7:00 p.m. To register, call (860) 358–6699. Free.

Sibling Class

Big brother or sister can see where Mom will stay, talk about when the baby comes home, and practice holding and diapering life–sized dolls. This class is designed for siblings who are at least three years of age. Classes are held once a month at Middlesex Hospital. Register early by calling (860) 358–6699. Fee: $25 per family.

Pediatric & Family CPR Certification

A 2.5 hour entry-level course designed for the general public, parents, baby sitters, etc. The course offers guidelines for the one-rescuer infant/child CPR and foreign body airway obstruction. Classes held on the third Wednesday of every month. $30 per person or $50 per couple. Cost included text books, test and certification cards. Call (860) 358-6699 to register.

Car Seat Fitting Station

The Car Seat Fitting Station is held at the Middletown Police Department, 222 Main Street, Middletown, from 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., by appointment only. Call 860-344-3299 ext. 315 for dates and to register.
